"The Philadelphia Genitourinary Society" was organized on January 16th
1911 in Philadelphia by seventeen physicians interested in genitourinary
surgery. Its object was to advance urology through scientific
discussions and presentations. Originally, meetings of the
society were closed and its membership limited to thirty. In
1918, meetings were opened to medical students and all physicians.
In 1914, the society hosted a meeting of the American Urological
Association, and, at that time, the Philadelphia Genitourinary
Society became a branch of the national organization, maintaining
a loose affiliation. In 1921, the official name of the society
became the Philadelphia Urological Society of the American Urological
Association.
